Before setting up the device, please confirm you have the following equipment:
DS3608-ER Scanner
Zebra Proprietary USB Cable (Note: For other host interface setups, such as a Keyboard Wedge Interface, please refer to the DS3608-ER Scanner Product Reference Guide).
Connect the Cable: Plug the RJ41 end of the proprietary USB cable into the base of the DS3608-ER scanner handle.
Connect to Host: Plug the USB end of the cable into an available USB port on your computer.
Power Up: The DS3608-ER will automatically power up, emitting a sequence of low, medium, and high beeps.
Verify Scan Beam: Pull the scanner trigger and confirm that the scan beam is visible and present.
Reset to Defaults: Scan the "Return To Factory Defaults" programming barcode found in the DS3608 Quick Start Guide.
Screen Scanning Tip: When scanning a programming barcode directly from a monitor or screen, increase the display magnification to a minimum of 125% to ensure optimal barcode quality for a successful scan.
Prepare for Testing: To test barcode transmission, open a text document in an application like Notepad or Microsoft Word. Ensure that your cursor is active and you can type into the document using your keyboard.
Test Scan: Scan any standard product barcode. The scanned barcode data will instantly display within your open text document.
Keyboard Language & Region Configuration: If your Windows operating system is configured for a local regional keyboard layout rather than a standard English layout, the transferred barcode data may appear inaccurate. To resolve this, identify your Windows language settings and scan a compatible USB Country Keyboard Type configuration barcode from the reference guide.
Extended Range (ER) Performance: As an Extended Range model, the specific decode and scanning range may vary depending on the density of the barcode being scanned.
Additional Information: Consult the full DS3608 Digital Scanner Product Reference Guide for advanced scanner setup options and international language documentation.
